Tremont-Duck Island-Irishtown Bend Holiday Food Drive Update – Round 1

Hi Residents & Business-People of Tremont, Duck Island and Irishtown Bend

The first delivery of donations went to neighborhood food pantries and hunger centers on Thursday, December 19th. Recipients were incredibly appreciative of what is donated. Below is a tally of totals to date:

• Point Totals are derived from adding cash/checks (each $1 donated is doubled to represent 2 equivalent canned good  items) then total food items are added = point totals – [ex: $100 becomes 200 equivalent food items plus 50 canned goods = 250 points]

Top three food item donations by block clubs: Winning Group following Round 2 on January 13^th will receive a $50 contribution from Tremont West to their block club account.

Holmden Buhrer Rowley/Mentor Castle Clark: 156 points (2018 – 279 points)

Irishtown Bend: 1,282 points (2018 – 550 points)

North of Literary: 3,017 points (2018 – 2,378 points)

South of Jefferson: 1,666 points (2018 – 2,046 items)

Tremont West staff: 790 points (2018 – 531 points)

This amounts to a current total of 21,911 points/equivalent items. That is an incredible start! The last three years (2017, 2018, &n 2019) have been our best years in the decade long holiday food drive!!!

2019 – 21,911 points (2^nd highest year of the decade)

2018 – 26,093 points (highest year of the decade)

2017 – 18, 708 points (third highest year of the decade)

Thank you so much to all who have donated thus far. Your generosity is greatly appreciated! Remember, donations will be accepted through January 10^th in the New Year for a second delivery. Please see below for guidelines for the food drive, including who the coordinator is for your block club, as Tremont West is closed from December 24th through January 1st and will not be taking donations during that time.

Here are the guidelines for this year’s drive:

 Items Needed: Canned goods, nonperishable boxed food items, and paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, napkins)

Counting: Food and paper products are counted individually – unless they are cellophane wrapped and sold as a set (example a four-pack of paper towels) is counted as one item not four. Canned goods and individually wrapped paper products count as one item each.

Cash/Checks: Based on feed-back from the last few of years food pantries can purchase goods at better than a one for a dollar exchange rate – therefore for 2019/2020 drive – each dollar will count for two food items. Checks can be made out to the food pantry(ries) of folk’s choice:

• Augustine Hunger Center
• Pilgrim Congregational Church UCC –  memo line: Food Pantry
• John Cantius Parish – memo line: Food Pantry
• Michael’s Parish  – memo line: Food Pantry
• Immanuel Lutheran Church – memo line: Food Pantry
• Westside Catholic Center
• Malachi Parish – memo line: Back Door Ministry
• Greater Cleveland Foodbank

– however, to count in the competition, for verification purposes, checks must first be delivered to Block Club coordinators or collection centers (see below), or to Tremont West – who will deliver them to the respective food pantries.

Drop-off points: Block club members can deliver food/paper products to the homes/porches of their block club coordinators  or block club collection centers in time for the food drive deadline. Items can also be dropped off at the Tremont West offices – 2406 Professor – Monday – Friday during regular business hours. Drop off items must include the name of the block club for them to count towards a block club’s totals.

Deadlines: A second delivery will be made in mid-January, 2020 for items donated after the Dec. 19^th, 2019.

 NOTE: The Tremont West offices are closed from December 24th, 2019 through January 1^st, 2020 and will reopen on Thursday, January 2^nd, 2020. Deliveries during that time can only be made to your block club coordinator or collection centers, and not to the Tremont West office.
