SUMMARY:Tremont History Project
DESCRIPTION:The Sisters of St. Joseph Convent and Academy\, completed in 1889\, was located on the current campus of St. Theodosius Orthodox Cathedral. It was sold to St. Theodosius in 1902\, who then used it as a church until the cathedral was built in 1911\, after which it then served as a school building. The 1889 convent building was demolished in 1972.\nTremont History Project will resume monthly committee meetings on Saturday\, March 19th\, at 10:30am\, at the South Branch location of the Cleveland Public Library (Scranton & Clark Ave.). This hybrid meeting will offer both in-person and remote/virtual participation using Zoom. We will continue developing our projects and initiatives for 2022. CGR is partnering with RET3 Job Corp\, a local 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization to host a COMPUTER ROUND UP on Saturday\, April 9th from 9 am – 5 pm. CGR will have a tent set up at Lucky Park. Donation receipts will be provided.\nItems accepted:\ncomputers /laptops\, tablets/e-readers\, monitors (CRTs\, LCD\, LED flatscreens)\nkeyboards\, mice\, cords\, cables and other peripherals\nprinters\, ink and toner cartridges\ncell phones\, telecom equipment\, networking equipment\, servers\nvideo games\, DVDs\nstereo equipment\, CD players\, media players\, cable boxes\nelectronic equipment batteries\nNon-acceptable Materials:\ntelevisions – older tube models\, projection\, consoles\nhousehold appliances (including freon-containing appliances)\npaint or oil\nmedical electronics\nmercury containing items – thermostats\, etc.\nballasts\nlight bulbs\nsmoke detectors\nRET3 stands for\nRefurbish • Reuse • Recycle\nEnvironment • Electronics • Education\nTechnology • Teach • Train\nRET3 Job Corp. is dedicated to refurbishing\, reusing\, and recycling computer and electronic equipment while educating and training recipients and the transitional workforce to repair\, upgrade and use computers\, helping to shrink the digital divide and create a more productive and technologically adept workforce in northeast Ohio. Computer and electronic equipment that can be reused are refurbished and donated to schools and other non-profit organizations. Unusable equipment is de-manufactured and sorted into individual components for reuse. Items such as glass\, plastics\, metals\, ink cartridges\, cardboard\, circuit boards and other raw materials are sold as raw materials to Original Equipment Manufacturers.\nRET3 is a Microsoft Registered Refurbisher (MRR) and is fully EPA compliant. It provides a no-landfill guarantee that all electronic equipment will be disposed of in the most environmentally friendly manner possible. All data is wiped from donated equipment before being refurbished or reused using data sanitization software. Non-working hard drives are magnetically destroyed and dismantled by hand so NO information is left any equipment.

The Committee hosts an annual Living Well in Lincoln Park event. \nResponsibilities: \nStrive for and promote a safe environment for existing and prospective residents and businesses.\nIdentify and address areas of low or no visibility of street signage/signals and for lighting.\nMonitor court cases related to Tremont crimes and advocate for strict sentencing through writing letters\, appearing in court\, etc.\nLead physical enhancement initiatives to improve safety\, including identifying and removing graffiti\, creating murals\, removing litter\, etc.\nMaintain a positive and productive relationship with the Police Commander of the local police district.\nEnlist Safety Coordinator to provide a quarterly report on safety trends and recent issues.\nDevelop programs and initiatives that improve the overall safety and livability of Tremont.\nProvide an open and transparent environment for discussing and addressing safety issues.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Dyngus Day in Tremont with Opportunities to Support the People of Ukraine\nDyngus Day marks the end of the somewhat restrictive observance of Lent with a let-loose party worthy of the joy of Easter. Over the decades\, the Easter Monday holiday has become a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Polish and other Eastern European culture and heritage. This year’s holiday will take place on Monday\, April 18th.\nDyngus Day\, or Wet Monday\, is the name for Easter Monday. Historically a Polish tradition\, Dyngus Day celebrates the end of the observance of Lent and the joy of Easter. Over the decades\, Dyngus Day has become a wonderful holiday to celebrate Polish-American culture\, cuisine\, and traditions. Dyngus Day Cleveland also will celebrate with an event from 10am-8pm in Gordon Square. There are plenty of ways to celebrate here in Tremont\, too. \n\nUkrainian Museum-Archives will be open to the public from 12pm until 4pm. The museum and gift store will be open. Staff and volunteers will give tours. UMA will be collecting First Aid supplies to be sent to Ukraine. Items that are needed are listed on UMA’s website\, https://www.umacleveland.org/\nRoosevelt Post 58– Open at noon. Celebrate the Polish tradition at a real Polish club. Open to the public. Polish music played. Sausage and sauerkraut served. Traditional Eastern European beers served. DESCRIPTION:RiverSweep 2022 Willey Rd\, Kenilworth Underpass\, and Starkweather Underpass\nWe clean up to bring awareness to areas that will one day become a future trail or park and protect the Cuyahoga River Watershed. In 2021\, 700 volunteers removed over 27 tons of trash! \nOver the course of 30 years\, more than 20 thousand volunteers have helped us extract and recycle 24\,757 illegally discarded tires and picked up for disposal 740 tons of trash.  \n*Please note: All participants must individually sign-up and acknowledge acceptance of attached waiver. Please be sure to read waiver before signing up.
