Tremont’s latest community art project, “Seasons and Cycles,” installed June of 2018, is a colorful place maker in the form of a seating wall and planting bed on Professor Avenue in front of Tremont General Store.

Initially proposed by TGS proprietor, Kevin Kubovcik , the idea took up legs in the form of a partnership between Tremont Community Artist in Residence Program and Central Tremont Block Club. CTBC applied for and received a grant from Tremont Trek for the concrete base, and Tremont Community AIR Program applied for and received a grant from the Ohio Arts Council to go towards the community art engagement. Legacy tile purchases and other fundraising efforts helped with additional costs of the project.

Under the guidance of artist in residence, Angelica Pozo, dozens of Tremont neighborhood residence as well as Tremont Montessori Elementary children were engaged in creating tiles depicting their fondest very personal seasonal memories from around the neighborhood.  Additionally, working in collaboration with the Montessori Art Teacher, Christine Linn, students created images depicting cycles of nature, which is a unit of study for them, thus enhancing their learning through the arts.

We are immensely grateful to the Ohio Arts Council and Tremont Trek for their generous grants that helped make this project possible.
