“Let’s Luau” Theme Friday from 5 – 10 p.m. includes Hawaiian Shirt Contest,
New Art Openings, Inlet Dance Theater, Street Performers & More
Walkabout Tremont goes tropical this Friday, August 9, from 5 to 10 p.m. with a “let’s luau” theme and extended hours at art galleries and retail shops, and a variety of tropical-themed food & drink specials at Tremont’s restaurants and bars, multiple art openings, Hawaiian shirt contest, stilt walkers, Tribe Ostara belly dancers, Cleveland Kiltie Band (bagpipes), Alex Henry jazz trio and the Inlet Dance Theater in Lincoln Park as part of Arts in August. Plus, Visible Voice Books is hosting a book signing for a new book about Cleveland’s burlesque scene from author Erin O’Brien.
There will be more than a dozen pop-up tents with artists from within and outside Tremont. And, visitors can enjoy locally produced art in many shops, restaurants and bars, view a local history display at the corner of Professor and College Avenues, and take a tour of two of Tremont’s iconic churches.
Hawaiian Shirt Contest
Calling all owners of really bright, tropical shirts (or other Hawaiian garments) that border on the obnoxious. It’s time to show them off while the weather is still warm. Wear it to Walkabout Tremont Let’s Luau for a chance to win great prizes. Come to the steps of St. John Cantius church (906 College Ave.) at 7:15 p.m. for judging.

Up in Flames—art exhibit
Fire is an element that is powerful, symbolic and destructive. This art exhibit focuses on all aspects of fire, such as the deadly wildfires in California, fire goddesses, Greek mythology, zodiac symbolism, and fire in its own element. Other than its natural state, fire is a subject associated with strength, vitality, and passion, yet is shown in many different ways and cultures over time. The inspiration behind the show is a book called “Ayla on fire” by local author, Ayla Atash. Up In Flames features the work of Tessa Lebaron, Paige K., Manda Specht, Ayla Atash, Shawn Mishak, Doug Meyer and Tim Joyce.
